Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts Tony Smibert

An Artist's View: Secrets of the Golden Age of British Watercolours, 1750-1850


On the December 15, 2021, the Friends of Drawings and Prints at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted a presentation by Australian artist Tony Smibert on the materials and techiques of British artist Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851), arguably the most important English Romantic painter and pioneer of watercolour as a medium of distinction. 


The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City, colloquially called 'The Met' is the largest museum in the Western Hemisphere. Its permanent collection contains over two million artworks.


Tony is widely regarded as a leading authority on Turner. Tony's own artworks grace collections that include Turner watercolours. Tony Smibert's artworks are available through ACAE Gallery.
