Anne Spudvilas artworks donated to State Library of Victoria

February 2020, two artworks by Anne Spudvilas have been donated to the State Library of Victoria.

Anne Spudvilas is an acclaimed Australian artist and illustrator. In 2006 Anne was commissioned by Penguin Books to illustrate the children's adaptation of acclaimed principal ballet dancer Li Cunxin's award winning autobiography 'Mao's Last Dancer'. The resulting book, titled 'The Peasant Prince', won the 2008 NSW Premier's Award (Patricia Wrightson Prize), the Australian Book Industry Award for Younger Readers and the Queensland Premiers Award. As a part of her research, Anne accompanied Li to China visiting his home town and experiencing many facets of Chinese culture. Two works were acquired from Anne's exhibition at ACAE Gallery for inclusion in the collection of the State Library of Victoria.
