Tony Smibert


Tony Smibert is often described as drawing on both European and Asian painting techniques to create acrylic wash and watercolour landscapes and abstracts of singular brilliance. 


A Visiting Artist Researcher at Tate Britain, his lectures and presentations of traditional watercolour have included the National Gallery of Australia, Tate Gallery in Britain and NY Metropolitan Museum of Art, while his publications on JMW Turner and historic watercolour can be found in museum and other major book-stores. 


A recent finalist in two of Australia’s most significant art competitions, the Hadley’s Prize and Glover Prize, Smibert’s watercolours and canvasses were recently featured in a major exhibition at Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston: Tao Sublime: The Art of Tony Smibert.  He was appointed an Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2016.
