Chinese Aboriginal People
Artist Zhou Xiaoping is leading a research project into people of Chinese and Aboriginal heritage. The project was launched on Saturday at the Chinese Museum, Melbourne (26.3.22), and featured presentations by Professor Peter Yu AM, Vice President (First Nations), Australian National University, along with Matthew Trinca, Director of the National Museum of Australia and others. Xiaoping's research brings to light shared histories between Indigenous and Chinese people that have hitherto received little attention. The research includes analysis of historical artworks that depict interactions between Chinese and Aboriginal people during the colonial period.
