'Changing Times: Posters From the Stuart E Fraser Collection' is an exhibition featuring Chinese propaganda posters from the 1960s to 1980s from La Trobe University’s Stuart E Fraser Poster Collection.
Curated by La Trobe Art Institute, this delightful exhibition provides but a tantalizing hint of the 4,000 + collection amassed by Professor Fraser on behalf of La Trobe University. The selection of images include scenes of rural Chinese life in the late 1970s, and from a few years later, images that suggest a new technological future for the country.
Fraser, who was born in Tianjin in 1929 also managed to produce a catalogue of the collection, featuring 100 iconic images.
The Fraser Collection is one of those rarely viewed resources that reveals so much about China in the mid century. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to learn about its contents.
