Angie Pai: Why You Like This

Originally from Taiwan, Angie Pai is an artist based in Naarm, Melbourne. Her works explore themes of familial and cultural inheritances, at times referencing ancient Chinese scripts and writing systems. In her new body of work, Pai transcribes text messages received from her mother into Oracle Bone Script (jiǎgǔwén), a style of writing that appeared in China in the late 2nd Millenium BCE. The works engage with ideas of ancestral connections and legacies, while considering the challenges of communication across different generartions.
